The Coclé Mountains Tour
The Coclé Mountains are famous for its handcrafts made from soapstone, woodworks, cigars and, of course, the real Panama Hat, the so called “Sombrero Pintao”. You will see how the artisans weaves the hats and learn about the numerous ways of wearing the Sombrero.

Detailed Description
On this route through the rural areas of the Coclé Mountains you will visit the houses and workshops of local artisans and learn from them about their handcrafts.
You will do a moderate hike of approximately 2 hours between two communities in order to visit Panama’s only soapstone mine where a small cooperative ex-tracts and carves this soft stone. Your guide will then show you where the “Bellota” grows, a local palm tree from which fibers are extracted in order to weave the Panamanian Sombreros.
At the village of La Pintada a hat maker will show you in detail how he weaves the hats, explain about the numerous patterns he uses and about the different ways of wearing the Sombrero.
