Detailed Description
The State of Campeche is home to numerous architectural remains of the ancient Mayan civilization, and some of its major archaeological sites are among the most important of the Maya lowlands: Santa Rosa Xtampak, Edzná, Becán and Calakmul.
Although it was determined that in the Maya Late Classic there were two large states, Tikal (Peten) and Calakmul (south of Campeche) that dominated their respective areas of influence, the builders of the Río Bec and Chenes areas were able not only To create unique architectural styles, but to extend its original forms and details to other cities north of the present state of Campeche, where they flourished during the Terminal Classic.
