Detailed Description

As you arrive to the Inverness Bus Station, you will be greeted by your WOW Scotland guide and your tour driver and board a luxury min-coach to depart at 8:30 AM. Your guide will give you a briefing of the day to come and give you the information about this 12 hour tour.

You will cross the Kessock Bridge and enjoy views over coastal Inverness, as you head west you can enjoy the scenery of the mountains including Sgurr a Mhuillin and Fionn Bheinn, and numerous roadside lochs including Loch Garve, Loch Luichart and Loch a Chuilin.

Your first stop is the village of Achnasheen, here you will have 10 minutes to stretch your legs, use the facilities and snap a photo of the rugged mountains from the railway bridge. Then, yo will continue driving west you will have views of the Strome Castle, the 5 Sisters of Kintail and then you will arrive to Kyle of Lochalsh.

You will cross the iconic Skye Bridge and arrive to the beautiful Isle of Skye. Your first stop is the sleep fishing village of Kyleakin. Here you can enjoy great views of the Skye Bridge, Eilean Ban lighthouse and legendary Castle Moil. You will spend approximately 25 minutes in Kyleakin and there is an opportunity to pick-up coffee and cake from a great local café.

You will continue your journey with inspiring views of the Red and Black Cuillin mountains. Here, you can go on an off-the-beatentrack hike with the guide to one of our favourite little-known spots. Alternatively, perhaps you’d rather relax in Seumas’ Bar, which is renowned for its collection of 400 malt whiskies, and even produces its own ale in the adjacent Cuillin Brewery.

On your way to Kilt Rock you will have the opportunity to snap a phot on the unique rock formation of the Old Man of Storr, widely recognised from feature films including Stardust, The Wicker Man, Prometheus and The BFG.

Your next stop is The Quiraing, a series of landslides that have combined to create high cliffs, hidden plateaus, buttresses and rock pinnacles. At around 3:00 PM will begin your journey back down Skye’s most northerly peninsula, The Trotternish, you will have different photo stops on the return journey, with our favourite being the Sound of Raasay viewpoint.

You will spend 45 minutes in Portree, a beautiful place to explore. Once you are back on the coach, you can enjoy a light Scottish-themed dinner onboard (optional extra). As you cross the Skye Bridge, your next stop is the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, next you will meander along the shores of Loch Duich before travelling up into the hills, where you will see legendary mountains; The 5 Sisters of Kintail.

Your last stop is the Urquhart Castle, where you will spend around 10 minutes viewing the loch-side castle ruins from above, then you will return to Inverness city centre at approximately 8:45 PM.

If you cancel within 72 hours of the scheduled departure you will not be entitled to a refund.

  1. How often are bathroom/toilet stops?

There are six stops where toilets/bathrooms can be accessed. The longest time between bathrooms is 1 hours 55 mins, although on this leg of the journey it is possible to make an unscheduled stop en-route if requested. For the rest of the day the average length between stops is around 75 minutes.

    Below we have listed the times when bathrooms are available (times can vary slightly but this gives you a very good indication);

9.25am (Achnasheen), 11am (Kyleakin), 12.05pm (Sligachan), 2.10pm (Staffin), 4.10pm (Portree) and 6.05pm (Eilean Donan Castle).

Outside of these times it is possible to make unscheduled bathroom stops – please just ask our driver or guide to see what they can do for you, as the last thing we ever want is for our passengers is to be uncomfortable.

Please note that there are bathroom facilities available in Inverness bus station which you can use prior to tour departure.

  2. Will we be stopping for coffee/snacks enroute?

There are a couple of places where you can pick up a coffee or a bottle of water but doing so means that you will have less time to spend exploring the sights. Consequently, many of our guests prefer to bring some light snacks and drinks with them on the coach, to keep their energy up for the adventure!

If you do wish to purchase drinks and snacks on the tour the main opportunities to do this are in Portree (you have approximately 45 minutes here and there are several cafes, bakeries and shops) and at the Sligachan Hotel (there is a bar there, with a great selection of whisky!).

  3. How much time will we spend on the coach on the Skye tour?

This is a 12 hour tour which covers all of the most popular sights, both en-route to and on the Isle of Skye. Although there is approximately 7 hours 15 minutes of driving involved the scenery along the way is stunning, and of course the commentary will keep you informed and entertained, so the time onboard will fly by! The tour also incorporates around 5 hours of stops so there is plenty of time to get out and explore!

Can wheelchair/walking frame users come on the Skye tour?
Unfortunately, not all of the stops offer wheelchair access, as a lot of the terrain on Skye is very rugged. Also, the coach is not equipped for passengers to remain in their wheelchairs.

That being said, if you are able to get out of your wheelchair at the coach steps and walk onto the coach, there is no reason why you could not enjoy the tour from the comfort of the coach and we will make every effort to accommodate those with mobility problems.
