Detailed Description
This amazing journey will begin in front of the Columba Hotel where your guide will pick you up in a comfortable 8 seater vehicle and take you along the roads of the Isles. You will experience the distinctive landscapes and breath-taking scenery of rugged hills, beautiful glens and numerous glistening waterfalls that the West Highlands and Islands of Scotland has to offer.
You will visit the mysterious Loch Ness (and have views of Urquhart Castle), the emotive and atmospheric Glen Shiel where a Jacobite battle was fought against the British Government in 1719, the legendary and dramatic peaks of the Five Sisters of Kintail, and the world famous and extremely photogenic Eilean Donan Castle. You can also find wildlife on your way like deer, wild goats, osprey or an eagle.
Then, you will cross over the beautifully designed Skye Bridge, which opened in 1995, to take in some of the most breath-taking scenery and landscapes that has gained the Isle of Skye it’s notoriety all over the world. After that, you will travel through the Cuillin Mountain Range and take in the dramatic and ever-changing backdrop so heavily influenced by the unpredictability of the weather.
Also, you will visit the picturesque harbour town of Portree, and perhaps enjoy some wonderfully fresh seafood for lunch or stroll along the 19th century pier designed by one of Scotland’s most renowned Civil Engineers, Thomas Telford.
After lunch you will continue to where the volcanic activity has left mesmerising natural landmarks such as the impressive Old Man of Storr, the phenomenal views at the Quiraing and, to complete the “bucket list”, the distinctive pillars and beautiful waterfall at Kilt Rock, with views across to the Torridon hills on the mainland. This 11 hour journey will end back at the Columba Hotel.
