Detailed Description
This tour will show you the most relevant Maya sites in the country. You will start with Joya de Ceren, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the only Maya village in the world. It was preserved by layers of ash from a nearby volcano, that interrupt the life of the habitants and now show to us a window of the life or the regular Maya people.
Then, you will see the ceremonial centre of San Andres, with its interesting museum., This was a medium size Maya city, that was also covered by the ash from a volcano, and years later habituated again, when the spanier arrived, it was part of a large farm that produced Indigo.
At last you will see the Tazumal Pyramid, located in Chalchuapa wich is the Tallest Maya pyramid in the region. Free time for lunch at San Ana or overlooking Coatepeque Lake.
