Detailed Description
To do this tour you must go on your own to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort pier, where you will meet your guide at 5:00pm to board the boat that will take you to the Embera Katuma community. Upon reaching the Embera Katuma community, your guide will take you to your cabin so you can settle.
You will have dinner around 6:30pm, it is usually catch of the day accompanied by fried green plantains “patacones” or coconut rice and a bottle of water or orange juice.
You will have 30 minutes to change your clothes to go to the night safari. The night safari has a duration of 1 hour and you will see nocturnal animals such as owls, monkeys, insects and hopefully you can see a caiman from a distance.
You will be back to the Embera Katuma community around 9:00pm, to spend the night in your cabin.
Day 2 begins around 7:30am to 8:30am with a traditional Embera breakfast, usually smoked fish accompanied by striped banana and a bottle of water or orange juice. At the end of breakfast, your guide will take you on a tour of the bird trail, this walking tour lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.
You will be back to the community at 10:00am and you will be welcomed by the people of the community with traditional Embera music and dances, after this they will tell you a little about the history of the Embera Katuma community and will take you to a walking tour of their community. You will have the option of buying some handmade crafts made by the people who live in this community (the purchase of handmade crafts is not included in the tour price).
Before finishing the tour around 11:45am you will enjoy a traditional Embera lunch, that usually is fried shrimp or catch of the day accompanied by coconut rice, vegetables and a bottle of water or orange juice.
The tour ends with your return by boat to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort pier at 1:00pm.
The Gamboa Rainforest Resort pier is located in the Panama Canal Zone in the province of Colón, approximately 45 minutes from Panama City. Normally your hotel can help you organize a round trip transportation.
