Detailed Description
Departing from the Columba Hotel in a comfortable 8-seater vehicle, you will visit the Wardlaw Mausoleum, the historic burial place of the clan chiefs of the Frasers of Lovat and where it is alleged that Simon “The Fox” Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat (and Jamie’s grandfather in the Outlander franchise) is interred.
Then you will explore the mysterious and ancient prehistoric stone circles and burial cairns at Clava. After that, you will get immersed in the emotive air that Culloden Battlefield provides and visit the Clan Fraser grave marker; just one of several memorials to the Clans that fell during the battle in April 1746.
Later, you will admire the breath-taking native landscape of Tulloch Ghru, an area of natural Caledonian Forest with stunning views towards the Cairngorm Mountain Range, and where scenes for the first TV series were filmed.
Finally, you will visit the imposing ruins of Ruthven Barracks, where Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlies) sent word to the Jacobite support that had congregated there in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Culloden that the uprising was over, and that every man should “seek his own safety in the best way he can”. Then you will return to the Columba Hotel.
