Detailed Description
You will start the journey from the Oldbridge road in Dublin, there will be the Mountain Trails mini coach and you will leave for Wicklow at 10:30 AM. On the way you can admire the beautiful landscape ascending the Scarr mountain, as we descend into the valley you will enjoy the views of Knocknacloghoge and Lough Dan, where scenes from the TV series 'Vikings' were filmed.
The hike begins near the National Scout Center at the southern tip of Lough Dan. You will follow a secondary path that soon becomes a track, ascending gradually, you will take a tree-lined path that takes us to a hill crossing over Lough Dan, which offers magnificent views of this unusually curved glacial lake.
Next, you will go to Kanturch. Finally, you will reach the top of Scarr at 644 meters, (2,113 feet) high. From this wonderful position, you can get great views of much of the Wicklow range. From here you will gradually descend to the mini coach through a wide whale crest. The walk should take about 4.5 hours, and you will have time to stop at Roundwood for a snack and have a look before returning to Dublin around 5:00 PM.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do you have any age limits on your trips?
If any clients are under 18 they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. For safety reasons we are unable to take anyone under the age of 14 on our regular hikes. If you have small children and wish to book a walk then please contact us to arrange a private guiding day tailored around your needs. There is no upper age limit.
-
How fit do I need to be?
Our day hikes are graded easy, moderate, hard and hard/strenuous:
Easy graded: walks are designed for those who do a little regular walking over undulating ground and occasionally off paths.
Moderate: walkers who are used to rough paths and manage 12 km (7½ miles) with relative ease should find the moderate graded walks suitable.
Hard graded: walks are for regular hill walkers who are used to walking for up to 6 hours and climbing up to 800 m.
Hard/strenuous graded: hikes are designed for regular hikers who are used to walking longer distances with a sustained climb of around 1000 m included.
For our weekend trips, with their multi-day format, you would need to be reasonably fit and/or a regular mountain walker. We would advise some training in the form of cycling or running, or, of course, hiking. The hikes would be of a hard or hard/strenuous grade. -
Do I need travel insurance when travelling to the United Kingdom?
We would advise all clients to get suitable travel insurance before taking one of our trips.
