Detailed Description
Braulio Carrillo National Park
You will depart from the lobby of your hotel in San Jose at 7:30 AM, heading north towards the Central Volcanic Mountain Range to cross the spectacular Braulio Carrillo National Park enjoying the country landscape to continue ascending among tropical forests of extraordinary beauty and biodiversity. The Braulio Carrillo National Park is one of the largest protected areas in Costa Rica with 50,000 hectares and is in one of the areas with the steepest topography in the country. The landscape is made up of high mountains densely covered with forests and a great quantity of canyons through which rivers and streams of great importance run in the production of hydroelectric energy.
During the tour we will observe the continuous changes of vegetation produced by the diversity of height when crossing the continental divide at 2259 meters above sea level and passing from the Pacific slope to the plains of Sarapiquí in the Caribbean at an average height of 40 meters above sea level.
After about 1 hour and a half we will be arriving at the extensive tropical plains where we will stop to observe the great variety of exotic fruits of the region and continue towards the town of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí 30 minutes away through a road that traverses haciendas and farms with crops of pineapple, banana, coconut and ornamental plants.
Boat Tour
Once in Puerto Viejo we will experience the adventure of sailing for an hour in the Rio Sarapiquí in the company of an expert local guide to slowly explore the wonders of the rainforest and its abundant wild animals in their natural habitat, stand out the American crocodiles, sloth bears, turtles, frogs, monkeys and lots of exotic birds.
Natural Park and Sanctuary of Animals of the La Paz Waterfalls
After a cosy rest in the river dock, we will continue the route through picturesque agricultural towns in the direction of the mountains of the Central Mountain Range enjoying really impressive panoramas with multitude of waterfalls among the dense humid forests for an hour and a half, finally arriving to the Natural Park of La Paz Waterfalls Wildlife Refuge with admission included to enjoy the hike on the forest trails that lead to the viewpoints of the waterfalls and the exhibition of many wild species of Costa Rica rescued by the Ministry of Environment .
In the park, we will complement this extraordinary excursion by learning and knowing the natural treasures of the humid forests and their biodiversity. After a varied and delicious lunch buffet, we will start the return by a beautiful route between strawberry plantations, flowers and coffee of approximately 1 hour and a half to the hotel in San Jose.
