Detailed Description
This tour utilizes the city’s Metro Transit System and trekking for a full day of unbelievable sightseeing, exploring and discovery. Meet your guide between Market and Drumm Streets, then begin with a ride on the California Cable Car that takes us through the Financial District and Chinatown up to the top of Nob Hill. Here take a very brief photo stop of Grace Cathedral and the only remaining pre-earthquake mansion, and the recently unveiled statue of Tony Bennet.
You will take a brief walk past the Fairmont Hotel as you make your way down the hill to Union Square on the second Cable Car ride of the tour. We see many popular icons along the way. When we reach Market St. it’s a quick switch to the F-Line. Then continue to the Civic Center for views of City Hall and the Opera Plaza, which includes a brand-new Veterans Memorial.
From there its underground we go, on the Muni Metro to the famous Castro District where the colors of the rainbow abound. from the Castro we will continue surface streets, using one of the city’s most scenic bus lines to arrive at the Haight Ashbury then after a short stroll it’s on to the World Famous Painted Ladies at Alamo Square, and the Napa district.
By the time we get off the Bus in Billionaires Row you will understand why the locals tell you that the most amazing Victorians are not in Alamo Square. After a quick photo-op, we will find an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge, then its back on the bus to the heart of the Cow Hollow/Marina district where we can grab lunch.
The day ends as we make our way through the hustle and bustle of Chinatown, explore back alleys, and stop for samples of Fortune Cookies. A short detour takes us through the fabled Barbary Coast, now renovated, it can truly be described as San Francisco’s SOHO. The city gives up a few more secrets as we make our way through often overlooked corridors of the financial district.
