Trip to the Ice Houses Route

We will meet in the morning in front of the Serrano Towers, where we have to wait for our guide to travel by car to a destination where the best views of the Valencian community will be stolen from our breath. Our access will take place in the Carrascal Natural Park of Font Roja de Alcoy. It is so named because an important part of the park is covered by a holm oak forest. Here there is a small route of less than 7.5 kilometers and a vertical drop of 350 meters, from an approximate time of 2 to 3 hours.

In the climb to the top of Pic del Menejador that measures 1,365 meters, we will stop at the Ice Cave and shortly after in the Plan of the Mine, where there is a reproduction of a lime kiln. Further on the right, we find the Pilatos viewpoint, with excellent views of the Serra de Mariola and the Polop River Valley. We will pass by the Más de Tetuán, an example of a traditional agricultural exploitation, and then arrive at Cava Coloma, an old building whose purpose was to store and conserve the ice.

Continuing along the forest track, we crown the Pic del Menejador, from where you can see the Mediterranean Sea. On the way back respond forces with a typical local food and immediately directed to the town of Bocairent.

In this beautiful town named Bocairent (Bocairente) we will see first the Barrio de la Villa, with its old town on the top of a hill, narrow and irregular streets, which indicates its Islamic origin.

Then, we will go down the northern side of the town leaving the left an impressive panoramic view of an underground convent of the mid-sixteenth century and a bridge composed of an ogival arch of ashlar stone to facilitate access to the Hermitage of Santo Cristo, from which it receives your name.

Next, we will visit the group known as Las Cuevas del Moro, declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1931. It is a group of artificial caves with holes in the shape of a window, hanging in the middle of a rocky cliff. The visit to the Cuevas del Moro is hilarious for young and old who introduce us on one of its sides, resulting in the exit hole on the other side as a game in the form of a labyrinth, only through the tunnels dug in the rock.

Finally, next to the Caves, we will visit the interior of the Cava de San Blas, embedded in the north face of the hill that dominates the town, accessing it through a small cave. This "refrigerator" of the seventeenth century was like the snow pit until the twentieth century and now houses an interpretation center on the economic importance of snow. At the end of the tour, we will return to our meeting point in the Torres de Serranos.
