You will be greeted by your guide at the Auckland Ferry Terminal at 10:00 AM. First you will have an orientation around Waiheke, taking in stunning sea views of the Hauraki Gulf, Auckland City and the Pacific Ocean. You will visit pristine white sand beaches and hear stories relating to Tangaroa the god of the sea.
Then you will have a guided walk through native bush where your guide will explain the traditional and medicinal Maori uses of native plants. The walk will take you to the summit of a historical paa site where you will see archaeological remains of kumara pits, shell middens and defensive terraces. Some native birds like tui, kereru and tirairaka can also be seen.
Your guide will introduce you to a variety of Maori musical instruments and you will have the opportunity to play them by yourself. Then, you will visit a top Waiheke vineyard for an optional tasting of premium wine.
To finish your day, you will be shown the harakeke (flax) plant and hear about its many uses.
