Detailed Description
Your adventure begins in Santa Maria del Tule where you will see the famous 2000 year old Tule tree. From here, we will ride south, stopping at various villages along the old trading route.
Our explorations include the quaint pueblo of San Francisco Lachigolo, an amazing 16th century monastery in the town of San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya, and a scenic ride through the garlic and corn plantations near the old town of Dainzu. Here, we will cross the river into the old town where you will have an opportunity to explore a Zapotec archeological site, dating back to 600 BC. Next, we ride to the village of Macuilxochitl, and continue to the town of Teotitlan del Valle, the oldest settlement of the Zapotec people.
Our tour will commence in Teotitlan, where we will enjoy a wonderful lunch, visit the house of an artisan known for making traditional candles and rug weaving, explore the community museum, and spend some time in the beautiful 18th century church and historical center of the pueblo.
